Odds and Ends
A few interesting pieces of news this afternoon... figured I'd throw 'em all together in one post.
Crooked Fingers has a new album coming out on October 7th called Forfeit/Fortune, and they'll be releasing it themselves -- i.e., no Merge, no Saddle Creek, no nothin'. There will actually be two versions of the album - the standard version, which will be available for download at iTunes, etc., and a limited edition deluxe version with a DVD. And don't forget that the band will be touring with Okkervil River this fall. (Via Bradley's Almanac.)
Speaking of Okkervil River, the band's new album, The Stand Ins, which is due out on September 9th via Jagjaguwar, has leaked. And, unsurprisingly, it's fantastic. My favorite track is "Lost Coastlines", which the band recently played during their WOXY Lounge Act. While I liked that version live, it's even better on record, given that it's actually a duet between Will and Jonathan (the band's keyboardist and also the frontman for Shearwater). The only bad news? According to a recent interview with Billboard, after this fall's tour, the band intends to take a "long break." Crap.
And there's news about yet another great release coming out this Fall - You Am I is set to release their 9th album (not including 2 greatest hits albums), entitled Dilettantes, on September 12th. Right now it looks like this is an Australia-only release for the time being (pre-order here), but hopefully Yep Roc or someone else will put it out in the US before too long. (Thanks to Sal C. for the heads up!)
