Dumbest Political Ad Ever?

Honestly, MoveOn... it's time to just move on. Nothing you do is relevant or helpful.

My beef is that it's not clear that it's supposed to be funny until the end. I had to cut MoveOn off a loooooong time ago. -E

My biggest problem with the ad, aside from the fact that it's not particularly funny, is that it isn't helpful to the cause of electing Obama.

It's preaching to the converted. There's nothing about the ad that is going to convince an undecided voter that Obama is a better choice than McCain. In fact, I would bet it has the opposite effect -- it plays into the Republicans' attempt to paint Obama and the rest of the Democratic Party as smug and elitist.

This election (like most of the last 20+ years) is going to be won by the candidate who can win the so-called Reagan Democrats, or whatever we're calling the folks in the middle these days. You appeal to these people by showing that your candidate is going to address issues that matter to them -- jobs, economy, gas prices, national security, etc.

Basing an entire ad buy around a sarcastic ad based solely around the word "hope", without addressing any actual issues that people care about, is pointless.
