Gary Louris Touring (No DC)

Gary Louris of The Jayhawks is going out on tour next month in support of his first solo album, Vagabonds. The album comes out on Rykodisc next Tuesday, February 19th.

I've had a chance to listen to the album a bit over the last week or so and... well... it's OK. Most of it is a bit NPR-ish and boring to me, which is surprising given that I've been a huge fan of just about everything Gary has done over the past 20 years. That's not to say the album is without its moments - "She Only Calls Me On Sundays" is a lovely near-hymnal, and "We'll Get By" may be one of the best songs Gary has written this decade. And, honestly, nothing on the album is bad. I just never thought I'd hear a Louris album where I regularly skipped half of the songs.

If you want to hear the album for yourself in its entirety, go to Gary's MySpace page and use his LaLa widget.

As per the title of this post, Gary is headed out on tour in support of Vagabonds next month. No DC date right now, but hopefully we'll get one added in before too long.
