Public Service Announcements

The more you know, the more you grow.

PSA #1

If you own a Tivo and you move to a new town, check all of your season passes to make sure they're set to tape on the correct channel. For example, let's say you live in New York and your Tivo is set to tape The Office on WNBC. Tivo will not update this for you automatically if, say, you move to Washington D.C. Instead, you'll end up missing the first Office episode of the season. And the second episode of How I Met Your Mother. And the second episode of Heroes. And the latest episode of Hannah Montana. (I kid, I kid.)

So be sure to go back and delete your old season passes and sign up for new ones. Or else you'll have to download episodes off of the iTunes store or, yuck, unBox.

PSA #2

Never trust your off-shore development team to use their judgment when it comes to User Interface issues. You'd be amazed at what an Argentinian finds to be "intuitive."

PSA #3

Never get less than twelve hours sleep.

PSA #4

Never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city.

PSA #5

Never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body.

That is all.

As regards #2, let's just say I would never again trust an off-shore firm to do UI work. Ever. Our experience at my last job was horrendous. You could never count on them to catch obvious mistakes or to make common sense judgments. They would only do precisely what you said (if you were lucky). Total pain in the butt.
