Jay Farrar News

There's a couple of interesting items in the latest Son Volt newsletter.

First, the new Son Volt album is now officially due to be released in "Winter 2007".

Second, the long-rumored album from Gob Iron, the collaboration between Jay and Anders Parker (of Varnaline), will be released on October 31st via Transmit Sound/Legacy.

The album is entitled Death Songs For The Living, and, according to the newsletter, "will feature different takes on American folk standards. Also known as the folk process, these include songs by the likes of Stephen Foster and The Revered JM Gates which have been given new lyrics or new arrangements in an effort to re-interpret the songs." Sounds like someone wishes that he had gotten a shot at those Woodie Guthrie songs instead of Tweedy.

Starting on September 30, the first song from the album, "Death's Black Train", will be featured on Jay's website.

Finally, Gob Iron (am I the only one who thinks of Arrested Development whenever I see that name?) is touring in November and December. The shows will feature solo sets from Jay and Anders, and then a joint set as Gob Iron. No word on dates yet.
