Eric Bachmann @ Bowery Ballroom, NYC [9/20/06]

Some photos from Eric Bachmann's show at Bowery Ballroom last night. For those scratching their heads, Eric is the main man behind Crooked Fingers, and long ago was the lead singer of Chapel Hill, NC's Archers of Loaf. Eric is touring in support of his excellent new cd, To The Races.

I've seen Eric live 4 times now, and each time has been different. One was a full-band mainly acoustic set (Village Underground), one was a full band, powerful electric set (Irving Plaza), one was Eric alone with a guitar (Rothko), and last night was Eric with a couple of supporting multi-instrumentalists. I haven't been disappointed yet. Eric writes some of the most starkly beautiful music I've heard over the last few years, and the power of his music comes across on stage regardless of the instrumentation. He could probably show up with a guitar and a kazoo and make it work.

Eric is touring through the end of the month, so do yourself a favor and check him out if he comes to your town. Richard Buckner is opening (with Doug Gillard on guitar), so be sure to get there early as long as you're not bi-polar. Holy crap is that guy depressing. Talented guy, though.
