Annuals

I've been seeing references to the band Annuals all over the place for the last few weeks, but had never gotten around to checking them out. Thankfully I happened onto a post about them over at Moroccan Role and decided to finally give them a chance.

Very interesting band with a pretty good range of styles. While "Brother" sounds very Arcade Fire-ish, both in songwriting as well as instrumentation, "Bleary Eyed" sounds a lot like Hope and Adams-era Wheat, and "Dry Clothes" is airy pop along the lines of what the Polyphonic Spree might sound like if they didn't suck. And guess what? They're only 20, those fuckers.

Annuals, "Brother" (highly recommended)
Annuals, "Bleary Eyed"
Annuals, "Dry Clothes"

Annuals' debut album, Be He Me, is out on October 17th. The band is touring pretty extensively right now, and is in NYC this Thursday (Sin-e) and Friday (North Six), and again on October 19th opening for Art Brut at Irving. Check their MySpace page for full tour dates.

Dude in the yellow shirt needs to learn how to tie a tie. And guy on right has a very Dashboard Confessional-esque "I want to kiss you" thing going on....

I tease, though. The tunes are good.
