New Old 97's!

While putting my SXSW schedule together earlier today, I noticed that the Old 97's were scheduled to play a show at Stubb's on Thursday night.

That got me digging around a little, and I discovered on their website that the band has a brand new album entitled Blame It On Gravity coming out on New West Records on May 13th. You can hear the lead single from the album, "Dance With Me", at the band's MySpace page.

Not to be too snarky, but in my opinion it's not the band's finest moment. I didn't much love the last album either, so consider my expectations for the album tempered. That said, their PR is going to great lengths to suggest that this album is a "return" to the feel of their early albums (e.g., they call the album "reminiscent of the intensity, drive and bona fide joy found on cult favorite and major label debut Too Far To Care"), so maybe there's hope for it yet.

The band plans to follow the album with a 3-week club tour. No word on exact dates/locations yet.
